Pondmaster Pre-Filters come with the pump upon first purchase. They are either rectangular or cylindrical foam, or plastic cages, and are set on the draw side of the the pump. Pre-Filters do not filter the full volume water to the capacity that is needed, but rather keep initial debris from traveling into the pump, causing problems internally. Over time, Pre-Filters may deteriorate from bacterial build-up, crack or break with very old age, or just become too soiled with pond waste to be properly cleaned. At that time, you may consider a replacement Pondmaster Pre-Filter. In other cases, a Pre-Filter that came with the pump at the time of purchase may prove to be too small for the pump situation, and you may just decide on a larger Pre-Filter.
