Plants that are found growing in depths of 8 inches or less in the pond are known as Bog Plants, or Marginals. They are excellent at providing less abrasive edges on the pond where stone work and transition to dry ground can be unnatural looking. Tropical Bog Plants refer to such plants that are not perennial in areas that have frost, ice, and snow in the Fall and Winter. These plants will die once the weather turns toward these conditions, unless potted and brought inside a greenshouse or home near a sunny window, away from cold drafts. Tropical Bog Plants tend to have bold colored foliage and flowers, bloom heavily in hot temperatures and full sun, and vary greatly in size and height.
