Submerged Plants

Submerged Plants

Submerged Plants, also known as "Oxygenators," provide an generous amount of water clarifying action to a pond, as well as additional food and oxygen for fish. They are dropped to the bottom of a pond, either potted in heavy soil like all other pond plants, or simply tied to a rock large enough to hold the plant at the bottom. Add Submerged Plants to your pond to help increase the health and clarity of the water, and improve the general status of the ecosystem.

Anacharis

Anacharis, also known as (Egeria densa), waterweed or Brazilian waterweed, is an ideal pond plant. Anacharis is an oxygenator plant that competes with algae for the nutrients in the water, thus reducing the amount of algae that will be able to grow. The plant is dark green in color, with fern-like leaves. The branching stems are covered in whorled leaves that help oxygenate and clarify the water. Because of its shape, Anacharis also acts as a filter, catching and holding suspended material in the pond. Anacharis also provides shade and spawning material for your fish. Although it is considered one of the best oxygenators koi do tend to like it as well. So some protective netting may be useful in order to benefit from this outstanding plant.

Due to the needle-like leaves koi tend to be less interested in this plant and like anacharis it is an oxygenator plant that competes with algae for the nutrients in the water, thus reducing the amount of algae that will be able to grow.
